The WIC Story

Celebrating Over 40 Years of Educational Excellence

WIC’s history and roots go back over four decades when Terry Davies founded West Island College Montreal in 1974. The following year, Jack Grant joined as part of its teaching staff, and in 1979, was appointed Headmaster.

In 1982, Terry Davies helped establish West Island College Calgary and was Headmaster until 1985, at which time, Jack Grant relocated to Calgary and took over the role. The Calgary campus began operating independently from the Montreal campus in 1993.

WIC Calgary began as a Francophone-only school and eventually evolved into what it is today – a leading private school located in industrial SE Calgary, offering both English and French Immersion programming with over 650 students from Grade 7 to 12.

In 2013, WIC Calgary received Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS) accreditation, which signifies that it “meets and exceeds rigorous National Standards that inspire continuous whole school improvement.”

Today, we are a proud school community led by Head of School & CEO Erin Corbett. The College has expanded in size and space and continues to excel in the areas of academics, athletics, fine arts, and student wellness. Our 100% post-secondary acceptance rate demonstrates our commitment to developing and nurturing students who will shape the future and become the leaders of tomorrow, leaving a lasting legacy for those who will follow.

Within our Hall of Nations, the flags fly under our roof. It acts as a metaphor for the idea that under our roof, there is room for everyone. Or even to take a step further, while having room for everyone is fine, trying to understand them and have them understand you is what education is all about.
