Advanced Placement
Prepare for University Success with AP Courses
Advanced Placement (AP) allows Grade 11 & 12 students to pursue university-level studies while still in high school. They are challenging, rigorous, and in-depth, which mimic the types of courses they will take in university.
Benefits of AP
AP Courses Offered
At WIC, AP courses are only offered in the second semester, so strategic course planning is important for students who wish to enroll in these courses. Past AP courses include:
- AP Calculus AB
- AP Psychology
- AP English Literature & Composition
- AP Biology
- AP Macroeconomics*
- AP French Language & Culture
- AP Chemistry
- AP Microeconomics*
- AP Physics 1
- AP Physics 2
- AP European History
*AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics are offered in alternating years. AP Macroeconomics will be offered in 2025/26.
Independent AP Exam Preparation
Many WIC students choose to prepare independently for AP exams in their Grade 12 year. We support students in challenging these exams and provide them with the resources to help them study. Examples of AP exams students have challenged include:
- AP Art History
- AP Human Geography
- AP Chinese Language & Culture
- AP Comparative Government & Politics
- AP Spanish Language & Culture
- AP Statistics
- AP World History: Modern
- AP Music Theory
- AP English Language & Composition
- AP United States History
- AP Environmental Science
Taking AP English Literature & Composition this year has been an incredible experience, pushing me to think deeper and refine my analytical skills. Next year, I’m excited to independently challenge the AP Comparative Government & Politics course, which I know will provide a strong foundation for pursuing political science in university. These opportunities have truly prepared me to excel in my future studies.

AP vs. IB: Choosing the Right Path
At WIC, we only offer the AP program, which we believe provides our students with the best opportunities for academic success. We understand that every student has unique learning preferences and academic goals, and for many, AP courses can provide the extra academic challenges and opportunities they are looking for.
While AP and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs both have benefits, they differ in structure, focus and outcomes. For example, the IB program is a European standard whereas the AP program is a North American standard. AP scores are recognized by universities and colleges worldwide, enhancing admissions applications.
The AP program stands out in several ways, making it a top choice for WIC students.
