English Language Arts

Fostering Critical Thinking and Literary Appreciation

The English Language Arts (ELA) program empowers students to become proficient communicators and critical thinkers. Through a rigorous and engaging curriculum, students explore a diverse range of literary genres, develop strong writing skills and enhance their ability to analyze and interpret complex texts.

Our program aligns with Alberta Education guidelines, ensuring students gain a deep appreciation for literature and its impact on the world. We encourage our students to delve deeper into literary analysis and creative expression, making our program uniquely challenging and rewarding.

Students Will Gain:
  • Critical Thinking Skills
  • Communication Skills
  • Literary Appreciation
  • Research Skills
  • A Creative Mindset

Learning ELA gives students so much more than just grammar and writing skills - it’s like unlocking a toolbox for understanding and expressing themselves in the world. Through reading stories and analyzing texts, they discover new perspectives and learn to see the world through different lenses. It’s also a way to reflect on their own experiences and emotions, helping them make sense of what they’re going through. Most importantly, ELA is about connection. Whether it’s connecting with a character in a book or finding the right words to express how they feel, students learn to connect with themselves and others in meaningful ways. It’s not just about academics—it’s about understanding the human experience.
