Students nurture vibrant life and learning in preparation for the Mother’s Day Market
Spring is thriving at WIC, and nowhere is that more evident than in the WIC Greenhouse. Under the guidance of our Greenhouse Manager Tim Kruchowski, students have taken the lead in growing, propagating, and caring for an impressive variety of plants.
This hands-on learning happens through both the Greenhouse Option course and the student-led Greenhouse Club. In class, students explore propagation techniques, greenhouse operations, and sustainable growing methods. Club members volunteer during lunch and after school to support greenhouse care, contribute to special projects, and further their knowledge of sustainability and horticulture.
Together, these students are bringing the WIC value of experiential learning to life—cultivating both plants and real-world skills.
What’s Growing in the Greenhouse
The greenhouse is currently bursting with fresh greenery and student-grown plants, including:
- Oregano and rosemary
- Succulents and orchids
- Strawberry baskets and white alpine strawberries
- Lupine, blazing stars, and marigolds
- Gooseberries and peppers
- Native and non-native coneflowers
- A variety of herbs and annual flowers
- Heirloom plant varieties
Each plant has been nurtured through a full growing cycle, allowing students to see the impact of their work and understand the importance of sustainable growing practices.
Join Us at the Mother’s Day Market
Many of these plants will be available for purchase at the upcoming Mother’s Day Market, taking place on Thursday, May 9 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. near the main entrance of the school.
The market will feature:
- Beautiful student-grown plants from our WIC Greenhouse
- A selection of goods from local vendors
- Student club tables offering handmade items and fun extras
Whether you're shopping for a thoughtful gift or just want to support WIC’s student-led initiatives, the market is a great way to celebrate spring, community and hands-on learning.
