Forever Wolves Community Celebrates a Remarkable Milestone
WIC is proud to recognize Hunter Thomson, Class of 2021, as he steps onto one of golf’s biggest stages: his official PGA TOUR debut at the RBC Canadian Open.
This is a major milestone in Hunter’s journey, from WIC junior high student, national competitor to professional athlete. The entire Forever Wolves community is cheering him on. Congratulations Hunter!
From WIC Greens to the PGA TOUR
Hunter joined WIC in Grade 7, where his passion for sport, natural athleticism and humble leadership made him stand out. He gravitated toward athletics from the start, but it was on the golf course that he truly found his stride.
In Grade 11, Hunter helped lead the WIC Senior Golf Team to a High School Golf Provincial Championship, a memory he called unforgettable. That same year, he earned a spot on the Canadian Junior National Golf Team, setting the stage for what would come next: a Division I golf scholarship at the University of Michigan.
"Even in high school, Hunter carried himself with calm focus, oozed determination, and had one incredible swing. You just knew he had something special. To see him make his PGA debut now is surreal but not surprising. I could not be happier for him, and I cannot wait to see his name on leaderboards for years to come. Just wow." – Mrs. McWilliam, WIC Faculty
Some of Hunter’s most meaningful WIC sports memories came from his early basketball days with the Grade 8 and 9 team, where WIC went undefeated and captured the ISAAC City Championship. He has always been a competitor, but more than that, he has been a teammate.
Teeing Off with the Pros
This week, Hunter is proudly representing Calgary and Canada as he competes in the RBC Canadian Open, his first PGA TOUR event. As of Thursday evening, Hunter posted an impressive 3-under 67 in Round 1, holding his own against seasoned professionals and drawing praise for his poise and composure.
We will update this story with his final score once the tournament wraps. No matter the outcome, this moment stands as a testament to years of focus, growth and hard work.
Leading with Pride and Purpose
In Hunter's Class of 2021 Graduation bio, he shared, "WIC has been the main reason for my transformation from a boy to a man, and I will forever be grateful for this school, teachers and community."
From WIC athletics to the national stage, Hunter continues to show what it means to be bold, brave and ready. His story is one of talent, perseverance and gratitude, a true example for current and future Wolves.
Congratulations, Hunter. You have made WIC history. We are proud of you and will be cheering you on every step of the way.
