Highlights from across the WIC community and two unforgettable school semesters

Looking back on 2025, one thing stands out: this was a year shaped by people.

Across classrooms, sidelines, stages, and city streets far beyond campus, this year reminded us that WIC is more than a school—it is one connected community.

Spanning the final months of the 2024/25 school year and the beginning of 2025/26, the year was filled with big celebrations, quiet milestones, new traditions, and stories that will stay with us long after the calendar changes.

Here are some of the moments that made 2025 unforgettable.

A Field Worth Celebrating

On May 7, our community gathered for a day many had been waiting for. The sun was out, the stands were full, and WIC officially celebrated the grand opening of the new athletic field and green space. The afternoon felt like a collective exhale—a moment where years of planning, generosity, and vision became something our whole community could experience together.

The highlight came when the Senior Co-Ed Soccer Team stepped onto the field for their second game of the season. Students, families, staff, and alumni lined the sidelines with foam fingers, thunder sticks, pom-poms and Wolves tattoos. The energy was electric from the first whistle.

WIC delivered a commanding 7-0 win over Calgary Academy, a victory that felt symbolic of a new era. It wasn’t just a game—it was a moment of pride we built together.

Celebrating the Class of 2025

In June, we honoured the 106 graduates of the Class of 2025. They leave behind a legacy of leadership, kindness, curiosity and commitment to their school and community.

Their post-secondary pathways reflected an incredible range of passions. Graduates accepted offers from the University of British Columbia, University of Calgary, Western University, Michigan State University, Wake Forest University, McGill University, the University of Victoria, Dalhousie University, York University, St. Francis Xavier University, SAIT, AUArts, Barnard College, the University of Glasgow, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and many more—including students who chose meaningful gap years.

And even as they began life beyond WIC, they continued to visit, share updates, and stay connected.
Once a Wolf, Forever a Wolf.

Creativity on Centre Stage

Creativity found its way into every corner of WIC, from theatre productions to musical performances to meaningful work in the visual arts.

In November, students brought back a long-awaited tradition with our first musical in many years: Disney’s Descendants: The Musical. Joyful, dynamic, and full of spirit, it was a production our students had been hoping for—and they more than delivered. Earlier in the year, Treasure Island brought its own blend of adventure and storytelling, rounding out a memorable year for theatre.

Our musicians also had a standout year. At the Alberta International Band Festival, the Grade 7 band earned "Most Outstanding Beginning Concert Band" for the third year in a row, the Grade 8 band earned a Silver Award, and the Grade 9/10 Concert Band received their third consecutive Gold. From Ironwood Stage to Jack Singer Concert Hall, student musicians also filled the year with memorable performances. Our jazz bands performed live downtown, and the Spring and Winter Concerts were highlighted by the original song debuts of Class of 2026 student Jerry L.—marking a special milestone in his creative journey.

In the visual arts, a powerful highlight for seniors was the Tall Feather Indigenous workshop. Guided by Elder Harley Crowshoe, Knowledge Keeper Chelsea Crowshoe, and local artists, students created seven-foot-tall feathers representing cultural teachings, respect, and storytelling.

Across all Fine Arts, 2025 was a year of creativity, collaboration, and student voice.

Making History: Senior Co-Ed Soccer’s Inaugural Season

With the opening of our new field, WIC introduced its first Senior Co-Ed Soccer Team—and they made school history with a gold-medal inaugural season, setting a new standard for what a first-year program can achieve.

A Groundbreaking Journey in South Africa

A new chapter in International Studies began when 21 senior high boys and four faculty members travelled to South Africa for WIC’s first rugby-focused global learning experience.

The group explored Cape Town and Durban, learning how rugby strengthens communities, bridges differences, and serves as a powerful social force. Students trained with local players, experienced the intensity of South African rugby culture, and saw how sport can unite people across backgrounds and identities.

Off the field, a safari offered an unforgettable look at the natural world. From wildlife sightings to team-building moments, the trip blended learning, adventure, and personal growth in a way that left a lasting impact.

This experience opened the door to a new era of global learning at WIC.

A New Tradition Takes Root

Within the GreenLab program, something meaningful was growing long before families received their first basket. The Harvest Baskets brought student learning, sustainability, and community connection into one initiative.

Since the project began, 100 Harvest Baskets have made their way into WIC homes. They were filled with produce grown right in our very own Greenhouse—much of it started and nurtured by the Grade 8 Greenhouse Options class. Over the summer, Kennedy D., Class of 2025 helped harvest, organize, and develop the program through the Pathway Grants, supporting its growth during its earliest stages.

Families embraced the chance to cook with greenhouse-grown ingredients, and the program quickly became a cherished new tradition. The roots planted this year will continue to grow into the next.

A Day for the Generations

Our third annual Grandparents’ Day welcomed more than 250 grandparents and grandfriends to campus. Visitors joined students in classrooms, explored the school, and shared the joy of learning at WIC. Many proudly wore the new Grandparents sweaters, adding an extra touch of Wolves spirit to an already special day.

The day was filled with stories, laughter, and meaningful connections that highlighted the relationships that shape students’ lives. It remains one of our most cherished community celebrations.

Forever Wolves Across the Map

Alumni engagement flourished with the return of our Forever Wolves “On the Road” gatherings. This year, we connected with graduates in Toronto and Halifax, sharing stories, memories, and pride in the journeys our alumni are forging.

Halifax became our farthest alumni meet-up of the year—4,400 km from the College—proof that the Pack stretches farther than ever.

And there’s more to come. We’re heading to Vancouver in April 2026, with hopes to visit even more alumni across Canada and around the world.

A Digital Leap Forward

In February, WIC opened a new digital chapter with the launch of our redesigned school website.

The website now serves as a true digital front door for our community. It reflects the energy on our campus, highlights student experiences in a more meaningful way, and makes it easier for students and families to find what they need, when they need it. It also gives families exploring WIC for the first time a clearer understanding of our programs, culture, and the experiences that shape student life.

From academics and athletics to Fine Arts, International Studies, and community traditions, the new website captures the heart of WIC in a way that feels modern, welcoming, and authentically us.

The impact of the new site was recognized internationally when WIC received Gold at the 2025 Vega Digital Awards in the Website – School/University category. This award celebrates excellence in digital storytelling and design, and we are proud to stand alongside top institutions from around the world.

It was a behind-the-scenes project with a very visible impact, one that continues to shape how our story is shared.

Looking Ahead

From January to December, 2025 was a year filled with heart, hustle, and Wolves pride. It brought together two school semesters, countless student stories, milestone events, and community traditions that speak to what makes WIC exceptional.

As we look toward the coming months and into 2026, we are grateful to every student, family, staff member, and alum who helped make the year one to remember.

Here’s to the stories still to come.
