Fostering Creativity and Critical Thinking
The Visual Arts program empowers students to explore and expand their creativity through a comprehensive understanding of various mediums, skills and techniques. Emphasis is placed on inquiry and developing critical thinking skills to evaluate their own art and the art in the world around them. The curriculum includes Art History, research, written work and critiques, fostering a holistic approach to visual arts education.
Real-World
Experiences
WIC Visual Arts students take full advantage of Calgary's vibrant art scene. Through field trips to local galleries and cultural events, such as the Glenbow Museum, AUArts and Contemporary Calgary, our young artists gain inspiration and identify familiar techniques and concepts in the works of renowned artists.
Local artists are also brought in to showcase unique methods and materials, offering students deeper insights into various artistic techniques and practices. These experiences help them understand the relevance of their own art within the larger context of the art world.
WIC encourages students to immerse themselves in various art forms and develop their unique artistic voice.
