How to Apply for French Immersion

Step 1: Learn more about WIC

Choosing the right school for your student is an important decision. To determine if WIC is the best fit for your family, we encourage you to explore our unique offerings and community. There are several ways to get to know WIC better:

Step 2: Apply Now

Apply now by clicking here!

We require:

  • A copy of the student’s birth certificate, and citizenship or Permanent Residence card, if applicable.
  • A copy of the most recent final report card at the time of application. If an offer of admission is made, it will be conditional upon receipt of the final report card distributed in June before starting at WIC.
  • Medical/emergency contact information.
  • A copy of the student’s most recent psychoeducational assessment and IPP, if applicable.
  • The prospective student will be required to complete an online profile form.
  • A $200 non-refundable application fee per applicant.

Step 2.1: Student Online Profile Form

The Student Online Profile Form is an important part of our admissions process and MUST be completed by the student, not the parent/guardian.

The information provided by the student gives valuable insights into their character and social suitability, helping us understand their personal values, interests and how they will integrate into our community. It also allows students to showcase their unique qualities, ensuring they are a good fit for WIC’s close-knit and collaborative environment.

Step 2.2: A copy of the student’s psychoeducational assessment and IPP, if applicable.

WIC offers Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) to support students with learning challenges who have a psychoeducational code, or areas of need identified in a psychoeducational assessment as requiring support.

Ideally, a psychoeducational assessment is no more than two years old at the time of application.

Step 2.3: Application fee

A $200 non-refundable application fee per applicant is payable by e-Transfer to paywic@mywic.ca with your student's full name and "Application Fee" typed in the MEMO field.

Step 3: Admissions Testing

A testing date will be confirmed contingent upon completion of the application form and providing all required documentation.

Group in-person testing dates will take place in the fall at WIC and will require approximately 3 hours of the student’s time. The testing will comprise:

  • CCAT (Canadian Cognitive Abilities Test) - 90-minute standardized test
  • Writing Sample (in English or French) – 20-minute timed

Step 4: Online Student Interview

As part of the admissions process, qualified applicants will participate in a group online interview, conducted in either English or French, with a maximum of five students per group.

Key Details:

  • Duration: Approximately 20-30 minutes.
  • Platform: Zoom (parental consent is required for recording).
  • Purpose: The interview provides valuable insight into a student’s motivation, interests and overall fit for WIC.

These interviews are a meaningful opportunity for us to get to know each applicant and ensure alignment with our community and values.

Step 5: Contract Offers

Early offers for Gr. 7 and Gr. 10 will begin in December.

Additional offers, space permitting, will be made at the end of January onwards.

The application process at WIC is competitive. We often have to make difficult decisions and some applicants may either be waitlisted or declined.

Step 6: Secure student's enrollment

The following steps MUST be completed by the offer deadline:

  • The Intent to enroll form must be completed with a "Yes";
  • Student Enrollment Contract must be signed by both parents/guardians; and
  • Tuition and fees outlined in the offer must be submitted.

Failure to complete the above steps by the deadline will result in your student’s offer being rescinded and released to another student.
