West Island College’s International Studies Programme combines character education and service learning in a truly unique global classroom experience.
Our Global Classroom
For over 15 years West Island College students have traveled around the world giving back in the communities they visit. Each year the programme builds on our humanitarian reach internationally and allows our students the opportunity to experience the increasing globalization of politics and economics first hand.
At the Grade 9 level students have the opportunity to travel to Europe and experience some of our country's heritage abroad. West Island College students contribute to the preservation of this heritage with volunteer work at a Canadian World War II site in northern France.
For the Senior High school, with over 100 students traveling each year, our trips are focused on experiencing new cultures and perspective as well as making a sustainable contribution to the developing world through humanitarian projects. Some recent destinations for our Senior High students have included Peru, China, South Africa & Mozambique, Thailand, Morocco and Tanzania as well as Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.
